Historic Porch Restoration

The Porch Restoration project was a smaller project in the lovely Cleveland, TN Historic District near Lee University. This area is full of wonderful homes offering a wide range of styles. An existing porch had degraded severely with structural issues and had been rebuilt with the issues returning shortly there after.

The client requested assistance with designing the restoration of the porch which kept with the original style and addressed the reaccuring structural integrity issues. There where several factors which where identified which contributed to the issues at hand, one being water runoff which was running down the structure and increasing decay and causing warping. Another was strength of materials used in previous restoration not being adequate.

The final design which incorporated client specific inputs was able to bring together both modern materials in the sub-structure to increase strength and period specific design which aimed to maintain the originality of the home and porch.
